Week 6: October 17th-21st

  Tuesday, October 18th ➽Activity of the Day: Poetry     One fun way to get the kids reading is through poetry. Not only must they work on their literacy skills, but they are multitasking by reading a poem that matches a tune. When I walked in the classroom today, they were in a circle singing, "I'm a Little Pumpkin" to the tune "I'm a Little Teapot". I believe that poems encourage them to read and be confident in their literacy skills, because they wanted to show off on how well they can read verses. Wednesday, October 19th ➽Activity of the Day: Assembly     Today at Hubbell we had an assembly. Grades k-2 filed into the gymnasium for a science lesson. An employee from the Science Center of Iowa taught the students about temperature and pressure. Photography wasn't allowed, but the employee began with a balloon tube- the kind used to make balloon animals. The employee then put the balloon in hot water and it deflated. Week 5: October 10th-14th

 Tuesday, October 11th ➽Activity of the Day: National Junior Firemarshal Day 2022      Today was National Junior Firemarshal Day 2022. The children watched a video on the importance of fire safety, and what to do in the situation of a fire. They learned how to call 911, and to stay low to the ground when there is smoke. At the end, they held their right-hand up, pledging to stay informed about fire safety. She flew through the books she struggled with just one week ago. Her teacher explained that she has been taking books home every night.
