➽Activity of the Day: National Junior Firemarshal Day 2022

Today was National Junior Firemarshal Day 2022. The children watched a video on the importance of fire safety, and what to do in the situation of a fire. They learned how to call 911, and to stay low to the ground when there is smoke. At the end, they held their right-hand up, pledging to stay informed about fire safety. They were "certified" as Junior Firemarshals.

One of the children I'm helping with reading has made so much progress since the last time I saw her! She flew through the books she struggled with just one week ago. Her teacher explained that she has been taking books home every night. It has been such a joy watching her learn, but- even more importantly- watching her excited about learning.

➽Activity of the Day: Reading groups

"My three reading girls are understanding!" This is what I wrote in my planner about what I did at Hubbell today. I am so unbelievably happy. Though I realize I had little to do with their development, watching their progress in language and literacy has been so enjoyable. They're beginning to pick more difficult books (with encouragement from me to do so), and they are going through their language flash cards with so much ease compared to where we started. It is almost palpable how excited they are about their progress.

  1. Are you getting the books from the classroom or the library?

  2. These books are picked out by Ms. Carlson. Some books are favorites of the students and definitely need to be retired!
