Week 24: March 27th-30th

➽A note to the blog

Mrs. Carlson thanked me for all the progress the three children I typically work with have made. She said my reading and encouragement have helped them catch up to grade level. They still have some work to do but the leaps and bounds they have made are evident. I am so fortunate for the opportunities this year has given me.

➽Activity of the day: Journeys

Journeys is a textbook filled with many difficult stories. The child I was working with today was struggling with her Journeys book so we switched to popcorn reading every other sentence. I'm proud of her though. She tends to lose focus when work gets difficult but she was putting in the effort today. That's why I alleviated her reading and did half the work.

➽Activity of the day: Research project

I got to do something different today. The student I was working with was doing a research project. The project was to research an animal of her choice on junior Britannica, then condense the facts they found and write a report on it. This was fun! My student chose sloths. While she was excited to read about them, she didn't want to take the time to write full sentences about what she found. That's where I came in. It was my job to remind her sentences begin with a capital, have a noun and verb or adjective, and end with proper punctuation. It was definitely some give and take to get her to do her work, but we got it done. After, I helped outline her paper. I'm upset that I won't be here tomorrow to read her report.

  1. How do you feel about all the progress the three children you have worked with this year have made? What do you think contributed to the progress?
